After a lot of thought, we have decided to shut Rabrain down. The hosted service will go fully offline on August 1, 2026. We know that for many of you Rabrain holds years of saved articles, notes, and ideas, so the most important part of this message is simple: you can export everything in one click, and we will help you do it.

Why we are shutting down

Rabrain never grew into a self-sustaining product, and we have decided to put our full attention into a new project, VITA AI. Keeping Rabrain running while building something new would mean doing both poorly. Rather than let the service quietly degrade, we would rather give you clear notice, an easy way to take your data with you, and an honest goodbye.

We are sorry for the disruption. You trusted us with your second brain, and the least we can do is make leaving painless.

Key dates

  • Now — This announcement. Export is available right now.
  • August 1, 2026 — The app goes fully offline. After this date you can no longer log in to export yourself.

Please export before August 1. After that, data is only available through a manual support request (see below) for a limited window.

How to export your data

You can download your entire library in two formats:

  1. Log in to your Rabrain library.
  2. At the top of the page you will see a shutdown banner with two buttons: Export CSV and Export JSON.
  3. Click the format you want and your browser will download a file (rabrain-export.csv or rabrain-export.json).

Which format should you pick?

  • CSV — best for spreadsheets and for importing into Notion. Open it in Excel, Google Sheets, or Notion and your bookmarks become a clean table of titles, links, tags, notes, and dates.
  • JSON — the full-fidelity format. It preserves the exact structure and is the right choice if you want a lossless copy or plan to import into another tool that accepts the Rabrain/Karakeep export format.

What the export includes (and what it does not)

So there are no surprises, here is exactly what you get.

Included for every bookmark:

  • Title
  • Link URL (for link bookmarks) or the text body (for text notes)
  • Tags
  • Your notes
  • The date you saved it

Not included:

  • Crawled article content (the full reader-mode text we fetched for you)
  • Uploaded files and assets
  • AI chats and prompts
  • List membership and the archived / favourite flags

In other words, your links, notes, tags, titles, and dates all come with you. The crawled copies of articles do not — but since those are just cached versions of pages still on the web, your original links let you reach them again.

Where to go next: Notion

For most people moving off Rabrain, we recommend Notion. Import the CSV export as a new database and you immediately get a searchable, taggable table of everything you saved — and you can build on it from there. Any tool that accepts a CSV of links will work just as well.

Need help after August 1?

We are keeping a secured backup of the database for 60 days after shutdown so we can help stragglers. If you miss the cutoff, email [email protected] and we will export your data for you and send it over, as long as you reach us within that window.

Thank you

Thank you for using Rabrain and for trusting us with the things you wanted to remember. If you would like to see what we are building next, take a look at VITA AI.
